When, a few months ago, I read the book "Stephen Ward is Innocent, OK" by Geoffrey Robertson QC a light went on in my head.
I realised that for most of my lifetime institutions which I had assumed (and had been taught to believe ) were trustworthy were, at least at times, grossly and unaccountably corrupt.
Events relating to the injustice perpetrated against Stephen Ward largely took place in 1963.
In my understanding of the injustice perpetrated on Stephen Ward the then Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Sir Joseph Simpson, was party to a conspiracy to "get" Stephen Ward instigated by the then Home Secretary, Henry Brooke, at a secret meeting.
Further, in my understanding, three judges in the Court of Appeal perverted the course of justice in that they withheld from Stephen Ward's trial evidence that Christine Keeler was a perjurer.
The three Court of Appeal judges who I believe to have perverted the course of justice were the Lord Chief Justice Lord Parker, Lord Widgery (a future Lord Chief Justice) and ??.
I have blogged previously about my serious concerns regarding the three Court of Appeal judges here:
Senior judges perverting the course of justice
Another institution of the British State, MI5, also contributed to the injustice perpetrated against Stephen Ward. An MI5 agent had had regular contact with Stephen Ward but the MI5 agent disappeared during the period of the trial, removing a material element from Ward's defence case.
As time allows I hope further to document the matters relating to Stephen Ward but also anticipate that I will look more broadly at the issues of judicial corruption and Police corruption amongst others.
If senior judges and the Police could, in effect, gang up in the Stephen Ward case to convict an innocent man yet be undetected and unaccountable, one must ask how many other times judges and the Police have perverted the course of justice and got away with it.
